Professional Profiles of ESP SIG Committee Members
Mark Krzanowski - Coordinator
Mark Krzanowski is currently involved in EAP work at the Language Centre of the University of Arts, ESP work at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), University of London, and teacher education work at the University of Westminster. In addition, he is also engaged in academic consultancies abroad, and recently he has worked on various EAP and ESP projects in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan & Tajikistan), India, Pakistan, China, Oman, Yemen, and South Africa.
In the past Mark was Academic Co-ordinator for ELT/Head of Section in the Dept of PACE at Goldsmiths College, University of London (2002-2005). He was Head of ELT Unit & Senior Lecturer in EAP at the University of Hertfordshire (1997-2002) and EAP Co-ordinator at UCL/University College London (1993-97).
He has acted as External Examiner in EAP for a number of UK universities: King's Alfred's University College [now: University of Winchester] (1997-2001), London South Bank University (1998-2002), Luton University (1999 – 2003). He is now in the fourth year of acting as the External Examiner for ELT postgraduate teacher training certificate and diploma courses (as well as its new MA in TESOL) in the ELT Centre at Essex University.
Mark has been collaborating internationally with leading ELT and applied linguistics centres abroad, e.g. in India: (a) the Centre of Applied Linguistics and Applied Translation at the University of Hyderabad; (b) the Regional Institute for Southern India (RIESI), and (c) the ELT Department at IITM, Chennai; Pakistan (e.g. the University of Azad, Jammu and Kashmir); South Africa (e.g. the John Povey Centre, UNISA, Pretoria, South Africa or the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein); East Africa (e.g. in Kenya: the United States American University, Nairobi, and Maseno University); West Africa (Nigeria: Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt). At present he is in charge of a distance learning ELT video-conferencing teacher-training project for open universities in Palestinian territories. Mark is also involved in applied linguistics, and in March 2006 organised in London an international conference ‘Linguistic Diversity in Africa’ (www.mkuked.co.uk).
Mark has also collaborated with the BBC World Service to produce educational programmes for overseas students and teachers, and most notably ‘Active Learner' and ‘Study Skills for Chinese Students'. Mark's professional interests include: materials design in EAP and ESP, teacher training, and academic management.

Prithvi Shrestha - Journal Co-Editor
Prithvi Shrestha works as a Lecturer at OpenELT, Faculty of Education and Language Studies, the Open University, UK. Currently, as a member of OpenELT, he is involved in a DFID funded project in Bangladesh called English in Action. It is an English language teacher training project with ICT interventions. Prithvi is responsible for teacher training materials development both for distance and face-to-face environments.
He has been working as an ELT practitioner-researcher for over 18 years, including teaching English in difficult circumstances. Over the recent years, he has developed and taught ESP/ EAP courses in several British higher education institutions. One of them is Professional Communication Skills for Business studies developed and written with two other colleagues in OpenELT in the Open University. He has recently contributed two book chapters: one to Current Developments in ESP, EAP and EOP (“Using Stories with Young Learners”) and another one to EAP & ESP in Developing Countries: State of Play vs. Needs and Wants (“ELT, ESP & EAP in Nepal: whose interests are served?”)both edited by M. Krzanowski ((2007 & 2008) Canterbury: IATEFL, ESP SIG).
His current interest of research includes language assessment, dynamic assessment, academic writing, online tutoring (e-Moderating), application of Appraisal theory to language assessment, and language policy. Currently, he is studying Doctorate in Education, investigating ‘dynamic assessment of academic literacy among business studies students in open and distance learning. He serves as a Co-editor of Journal of Professional and Academic English, the journal of IATEFL ESP SIG.

Will Nash - Discussion List Moderator
Will Nash lives in Manchester. He has lived there since 1996, first as a languages student and then working at City College Manchester teaching EFL and EAP to international graduates and postgraduates. He also does some teacher training on the Certificate and Diploma TESOL courses and teaches beginners German and French to adults. His role on the ESP SIG commitee is as the Discussion List Moderator and he would encourage you to have a look and contribute as well.
Tek Raj Joshi - Web Manager
Tek Raj has worked as a System Support Engineer in an ISP company “Himal Technologies Pvt. Ltd” for a number of years back in his home country Nepal before taking a career break and coming to study in the UK. At present he is doing MSc in Strategic Business Information Technology (SBIT) from University of Portsmouth, UK. He also holds an MSc in Computer Networks.
